Waffle House bans all non-black employees
(AP) An African-American employee at a Mississippi Waffle Houses chain says she was fired after refusing to take a break to pray during the Thanksgiving break.
The chain said Monday that it has fired her after she posted a Facebook status Monday that said, “I’m not going to be a WaffleHouse employee anymore, I’m going to stop working here.”
The company says it’s reviewing the policy.
Wafflehouse said it had a “constructive discussion” with the employee and “was able to resolve the issue.”
Wafflehouses, which has more than 1,200 locations nationwide, has faced criticism for its treatment of minorities.
It is the second restaurant chain to ban its black employees in recent weeks after it banned employees from wearing religious head coverings during a holiday break.
In February, a Waffles employee in Missouri was fired over an alleged racist Facebook post, but he is suing the chain for wrongful termination.
